The Challenge:

To work with the Newday Christian Youth Event ( www.newdaygeneration.org) and local churches to develop and deliver social action projects for the benefit of the young people attending Newday and local communities across Norfolk.

What we did:

  • Implemented a Prince 2 based approach to developing & managing the project.
  • Agreed & refined the brief with the client, thinking creatively about the components of the project, how they fit together, how the project could be innovative and how benefit to the young people and local communities can be maximised.
  • Formed a project team of key stakeholders and people able to carry out and deliver the brief.
  • Worked with Follow Creative (www.followcreative.com ) to develop appropriate promotional & marketing materials (flyers, website, tickets, t-shirts, feedback cards and visuals)
  • Researched, applied for and secured appropriate funding to enable the initiative to proceed.
  • Produced all documentation to facilitate the process, i.e. project concept forms, summaries, risk assessments, health & safety guidelines etc
  • Carried out the financial management on the project.
  • Facilitated communications between local churches, project leaders and the Newday event team to ensure cohesion and successful delivery.
  • Planned and delivered the logistics of transporting over 600 young people per day (3,000+ over the week) to various locations across Norfolk.

 Results:

Over the 3 years Taylorshouse has been working on the project;

  • 60+ projects have been delivered into Norwich and 10+ towns  all over Norfolk.
  • 9,000 + young people between 12-19 have volunteered to help with these projects and have changed communities
  • Approximately 600+ adults have volunteered to help run the projects and work with the Young People.
  • 25,000+ hours of help and assistance has been given to local communities.
  • Projects that have been run have included; clearing up litter and rubbish; running sports activities for local young people; running a kids’ holiday club; tidying up gardens for local residents;  painting over graffiti; a community fun day; car washing…+many more
  • £100,000+ has been secured to enable the initiative to go ahead.

What have people said about the initiative?

“It has led to decreased anti social behaviour in the areas where work was conducted and has undoubtedly helped in generating a better community feeling in the neighbourhoods.”

Police Inspector Rob Wicks

“I think it’s important that it’s young people… I think it’s great to see hundreds of young people who could well be doing something else with their time, but are here making a difference and that, to me, is what it’s all about.”
