PROJECT DEVELOPMENT
The Challenge:
To develop an environmentally focused project that would improve the economic prosperity along the A11 corridor between Thetford, securing appropriate funding and partnerships to enable the project to be delivered and have a major impact on the area.
What we did:
- Implemented a Prince 2 based approach to managing the project’s development.
- Agreed & refined the brief with the client, thinking creatively about the components of the project, how they fit together, how the project could be innovative and what its unique selling point was.
- Undertook a series of exploratory meetings with prospective partners and stakeholders to assess linkages, funding opportunities, their capacity to be involved and their level of support.
- Worked with the client’s economic development team to write a detailed business and investment plan for the project. This included a detailed project management framework and was completed to HM Treasury Green Book Appraisal Standards.
- Produced funding bids from the business plan, the major bid being to the European Regional Development Fund. Liaised with funders answering questions during the appraisal periods.
- Provided interim management services during the inception of the project, allowing key procurement tasks to be completed, i.e. marketing, thermal imaging contracts.
Results:
- The REV ACTIVE project was developed. A demonstrator environmental project using a proactive and innovative targeting method to find and assist 300+ SMEs with the greatest opportunity to make environmental & cost saving improvements.
- £3m of investment was secured, including £1.3 million from the European Regional Development Fund.
- The project started in a timely and controlled manner in line with the project plan and was handed over well to the incoming project manager.
